President Barack Obama isn’t quite sure what to make of Nicki Minaj’s lyrics supporting candidate Mitt Romney, but the leader of the free world can only assume she wasn’t serious.
“I’m not sure that’s actually what happened. I think she had a little rap that said that, but she likes to play different characters, so I don’t know what’s going on there,” he told the DJs at Power 95.3 in Orlando.
Nicki caused quite a fuss last week when her lyrics on Lil Wayne’s Dedication 4 mixtape seemed to be an endorsement of the Republican presidential hopeful.
“I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney. You lazy b!tc#_$ is f_c#!n% up the economy,” she rhymed.
Nicki hasn’t yet stated for certain which party or candidate she’s planning to vote for come November; however, she was pretty psyched that the president even responded to her comments.
“Awesome! Now I can tell my grandchildren that the 1st black President of the United States took the time to address a Nicki
Minaj question,” she tweeted.
While President Barack didn’t have anything negative to say about Nicki or her rhyme, he didn’t exactly give her love. The commander in chief said there’s not a lot of Nicki playing in the halls of the White House.
“I don’t think [Sasha and Malia] really listen to Nicki Minaj that much, but let’s face it. They are not hipper than me,” he joked.
That’s not to suggest that he doesn’t listen to some rap music.
“Michelle and I…we try to keep up. So, we’ve got a nice hip-hop collection on our iPods,” he said.
